BUMED messages (May04, Sep01) states that Navy MTFs will implement DOD policy and protect healthcare workers by specifically:
- Researching engineering controls to prevent needlestick and sharp injuries;
- Maintaining a sharps injury log for the recording of percutaneous injuries from contaminated sharps; and
- Ensuring that health care workers are involved in management initiatives relating to selection of effective engineering and work practice controls.
