Department of Defense Hazardous Materials Information Resource System

The Industrial Hygiene Department houses the Navy and Marine Corps Coordinator and the Navy and Marine Corps safety and health technical focal point for the Department of Defense (DoD) Hazardous Materials Information Resource System (HMIRS). HMIRS is the DoD repository for Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and related information on hazardous materials and currently contains over 395,000 product records. It is available over the internet in both a restricted (LR) version containing proprietary information and a non-restricted (L) version. Access to the HMIRS website is controlled by User ID and Password (LR version only). An application / registration form for the DoD HMIRS can be downloaded from the Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS) website at:

http://www.dlis.dla.mil/hmirs/default.asp

A User ID and Passcode should be issued within a few days after faxing the completed HMIRS application / registration form to DLIS. Contact the DLIS access control team at Online@dlis.dla.mil if you need assistance in completing the form. The HMIRS website is located at:

https://hmirsmsds.dlis.dla.mil/hmirs

A Compact Disc - Read Only Memory (CD-ROM) version of the DoD HMIRS is also available. The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) manages the Navy and Marine Corps HMIRS CD_ROM distribution list. E-mail wraps.prime.fct@navy.mil  for more information on the Navy HMIRS CD_ROM distribution.

Navy and Marine Corps activities can submit MSDS entry into HMIRS by attaching them to an e-mail sent to NMCP-NavyHMIRS@med.navy.mil or via fax machine to (757) 953-0689 or DSN 377-0689. MSDS can also be submitted by mailing them to:

Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center
Attn: Industrial Hygiene Directorate (HMIRS)
620 John Paul Jones Circle, Suite 1100
Portsmouth VA 23708-2103

The MSDS submittal function contained on the HMIRS web page may also be used to submit a MSDS for entry into HMIRS.
