Health Promotion & Wellness Course Scheduled for 16-18 July, Tobacco Cessation Facilitator Training 19 July and ShipShape Facilitator Training 20 July at NEPMU-5, San Diego, CA.

Readiness is the number one strategic goal of Navy Medicine. The Navy Health Promotion and Wellness Program supports Readiness through program resource development, training and program management.

Requirements for a comprehensive Health Promotion program are set forth in OPNAVINST 6100.2A (15 March 07), BUMEDINST 6110.13A (Jan 14 2008), and MCO P1700.29 (8 NOV 1999). As a part of the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center's (NMCPHC's) efforts to support the development of a comprehensive and effective Health Promotion and Wellness Program at the Navy's Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs) and the Reserve Component OHSUs, the three-day Health Promotion & Wellness Course is offered semi-annually. This process-oriented course offers valuable information regarding the planning, implementation, and evaluation of an effective Health Promotion Program. Additional information related to the Navy Health Promotion and Wellness Program will be included in the course.

The next Navy Health Promotion (HP) & Wellness Course is scheduled for 16-18 July 2012 at the Navy Environmental & Preventive Medicine Unit 5 (NEPMU-5), San Diego, CA. Seats in the course are limited, with priority given to Health Promotion & Wellness staff at the Navy Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs), and others in leadership positions at larger fleet or operational commands (aircraft carriers, CNIC, NPC, etc.), Semper Fit Coordinators and Navy Reserve Component OHSU HP and Wellness Directors. Seats are available for E-6 and above or GS-9 and above ONLY.

Tobacco Cessation Facilitator Training will be offered on & Thursday, 19 July at the same location. Attendees must be at least an E-4 and tobacco free.

Additionally, ShipShape Program Facilitator Training will be offered on Friday, 20 July at the same location. The ShipShape Program is the BUMED-approved weight management program. The facilitator training is for those individuals who have been assigned as ShipShape Program Facilitators and is required to facilitate the program. There is no rank or GS level requirement to attend this training.

If you meet the criteria above and would like to request a seat to attend any of the training listed, please complete the Quota Request form posted below and return it as directed on the form. The deadline for requesting a quota is Friday, 29 June. Individuals requesting a quota will be notified by 2 July of their selection or non-selection to attend the training. Those selected to attend will receive a Quota Letter with additional information regarding the training.
