Background:
Physical readiness is vital to ensure that a command's mission is accomplished successfully. The Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) consists of the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) and Body Composition Assessment (BCA). The Physical Readiness Information Management System (PRIMS) is a database that includes the following records, 1) the results from the PRT and BCA 2) Member demographic information 3) Physical Activity Risk Factor Questionnaire (PARFQ). Information gleaned from the PFA reports is used to assess predictors of PFA failures among Navy personnel. Some of the commonly studied predictors include Body Mass Index (BMI), smoking, gender, age, and rank. Future studies will also study predictors such as service time, previous deployment and prior injuries. A web-tool is currently in production to support these efforts.
Objectives:
- Report results of the PFA in support of BUMED, Health Promotion, Fleet Culture of Fitness programs.
- Assist in developing policy and fitness programs to ensure that our Sailor's physical readiness is optimized.
- Provide focused analysis on the predictors of PFA failures among Navy personnel.
